Secrets.
So many secrets. Nothing but secrets.
I started another life with a new husband, thirteen new sister wives and a new place to call home.
But the secrets weigh on me, on all of us.
And every secret leads back to the Prophet the, self-proclaimed, mouthpiece of God. The man I’ve worshiped since childhood, the man we obey without question.
And he’s the man who will destroy us all.
I must reveal his secrets.
Prove his betrayal, his lies and his deceit.
I will not be silenced, no matter how hard he tries.
And I will never give up. Ever.

Holy heck, this was awesome! I could not put this down once I started, I was completely drawn into this nail biting story.Aspen has been reassigned to Paul Black, after an awful first marriage to Lehi Cluff. She is wife number 14 for Paul but one he has been waiting on for years. Paul has had his eye on Aspen for a long time and is very attracted to her.
I really liked Paul, he couldn’t be more opposite to what Aspen had experienced in her first marriage. He is sweet, kind and patient. He is handsome and eager to make Aspen feel welcome. There is a lot of lust and this leaves Aspen feeling conflicted over how her body reacts to him and what she believes the heavenly father would deem as indulgent pleasure. I felt so sad for both her and Paul, if they are attracted to each other and have strong feelings for each other, surely this is a good thing right? Wrong, when there are 13 other wives who notice what is going on.
‘Because that was my job as his wife… not to lose myself in my own pleasure, my own selfish needs. It was my job to honor, to obey, and to please. And that was exactly what I planned to do.’
Aspen is not a shy girl and does not suffer fools, therefore when she begins to suspect that the Prophet is up to something, she decides to snoop around. She slowly begins to unravel secrets that are being hidden from his followers but when her own children's lives are put at risk she has to take some extreme action to ensure their safety.
OMG, this was edge of your seat stuff!!! I am excited to see where Melissa takes this next ☺

Mother Before Wife The Compound Series Book 2 edition by Melissa Brown Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This entire series was wonderful. Polygamy fascinates me. Each of these books had an intense story line that kept you on the edge of your seat craving more. I loved how each one segued into the next and left you wanting to know more. Very well written. Each charterer was very well done. I loved Aspen. She was probably my favorite. I loved how she fiercely protected her children even while being faced with insurmountable obstacles. Didn't think I would want to read the last book in the installment. I didn't want to hear anything from the prophets perspective but it's an intense ride that you just have to take. Overall...very well done!!! Can't give this enough stars!!!
I just love this series. I feel this can be read as a standalone but it would be helpful to read the first book to get some backstory. Also, it's a great read. It is fascinating to get a glimpse of the Mormon life with polygamy and sister wives. Book 2 focuses on Aspen, a previous sister wife of Brinley, after she get reassigned families. The Prophet reassigns her to his brother Paul's family and at first she thought things were going to be pretty good. Paul is so different from her first husband. He is affectionate to his children and the running of the house is much more lax. Aspen even thinks Paul is handsome and kind and I thought the story would take a more romantic turn like Book 1. However, that is not was this story is about.
Strong and curious women do not do well in this environment where men and more specifically the Prophet are not to be questioned. I enjoyed reading how Aspen is not so different from all women who are able to stand up for themselves and question when things don't make sense. Paul is first enamored with her feistiness but then gets frustrated by his lack of ability to control her. She finds herself alone and pitted against the Prophet and he wants to do battle. She is very afraid of of children's safety and considers running away with them but she decides she wants to go to battle too to try to help others.
Aspen comes to a crossroad because her faith is her identity but she is finding out that what she has been taught from the beginning is not the "truth". The author did a great job at describing Aspen's faith then her questioning faith then finally maybe her lack of faith in her lifestyle. The plot was compelling and fast paced. It did end in a cliffhanger and I'm interested to see how her story continues.
Mother Before Wife is book 2 in Melissa Brown's Compound Series. This book take us back the compound. The book tells us what has happen to Aspen after Brinley has left the compound.
Aspen has been reassigned to new husband. Aspen comes to realize that life on compound and with Prophet is not as it seems.
Melissa Brown has done an outstanding job bring us into Aspen's world. We see Aspen in a different light than from before. Aspen has been devote follower however as her faith gets test we see their so much more.
Melissa Brown has done another amazing job.
Melissa Brown does an outstanding job with developing the characters in the story. In reading the story your can feel Aspen's love and strength as mother to her children. In this book we meet Aspen's newly assigned husband Paul. In the book I would get so angry with Paul's blinders. The Prophets part in this book gives me chills. When reading the chapters with the Prophet I get this dark and dreary feeling. We also meet detective Jonathan.who looks to help Aspen. I don't like to give spoilers so you must read to find out his part in the story.
Reading the first book I knew I would love the series. Reading the second book I know even more now how awesome this series is. Melissa tales of the life on the compound and what Aspen goes through has you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait for Book 3.
This book is a five stars! A must read! I know when I read this book I had a very hard to putting down. With the twist and turn you were not sure what was going to come at you next.
