Charles Carr is a relentless, hardboiled Treasury Agent with a grim mission. A young agent gets violently gunned down during an undercover operation, and it's Carr's job to hunt down the counterfeiter who pulled the trigger. From the seamy sunset Strip to Chinatown's shadowy underworld, from a daring plot to steal counterfeit money from counterfeiters themselves, to facing brutal blood-drenched confrontations, Carr will stop at nothing to crack the depraved scheme that took his friend's life. In 1992, "Money Men" was released as the United Artists motion picture "Boiling Point," starring Wesley Snipes, Dennis Hopper and Lolita Davidovich.

These two novels from Gerald Petivich are companion pieces. Both track Treasury Agent Charles Carr (and a host of other characters from prior books such as To Live and Die in LA and To Die in Beverly Hills)as he battles counterfeiting gangs in both novels. In Money Men, a fellow agent is killed in a stakeout and Carr goes to the extreme to avenge him. In One Shot Deal, he has to contend with a master counterfeiter who has obtained real currency paper from the US Treasury and is out to make a killing, as well as commit several.
Both books have Petievich's commanding eye for detail and his smooth flowing style. All plot elements make sense and are introduced in a very smooth way.
It's a real shame Petievich did not get more of a following in his writing career. All of his Charles Carr novels are thorough going delights that never fail to please. If you're a fan of someone like Simon Kernick, you're going to love Petievich.
Highly, highly recommended.

Money Men Gerald Petievich 9781466326439 Books Reviews
Petievich brings smooth writing and a clear sharp way
of working a case into his book.
His hero, Charlie Carr, is not an idealized superhero
against crime. Carr is just himself, a hardnosed Secret
Service agent with limitations and problems, like
all of us. This gives him credibility. He seems to
drift when there is no important case to work. But,
when challenged, he cannot be stopped.
When a crook kills another agent, Carr goes into
high gear. The talk and characters seem as real
as a mug shot.
Carr hunts in a cold logical style to close in
on the truth. Petievich writes the same way.
Readers will enjoy them both at the same time.
---- Frank Hickey, writer of the Max Royster crime novels
of Pigtown Books.
Money Men by former Treasury agent Gerald Petievich stars the fictional Charles Carr. Carr is an experienced T-man based in Los Angeles. He and his partner, Kelly, are caught by complete surprise when a stake-out they are on goes sour and one of their younger colleagues is murdered in cold blood. Carr and Kelly vow to bring the perpetrator to justice.
This short novel is a very appealing example of crime writing. Every one of the characters is captivatingly colorful and interesting to read about. The action is consistently hardboiled and gritty. And the well thought out plot unfolds smoothly.
A superior work of fiction whose author knows his subject matter from firsthand experience. Highly recommended.
Good read, enjoyed it. Not a CSI type of story that is not factual or remotely like real life. Move right along.
Excellent read!
A different era than today, but the same criminals up against law enforcement with the desperation that cuts no slack. The author is a must read crime writer. I found no faults or extra words. I know of a couple of his books that were made into movies. I'd go with the books.
