Henry Cooley has good friends and a good life. He's secure in his job and his relationship. He and Tom, the love of his life, are about to celebrate their 21st-anniversary as a couple. Their son, CJ, is in his second year at Cal Arts. Henry's only problems are his growing dissatisfaction with his job and the fact that Tom's parents still hate him, even after all these years. At least those are his only problems until the morning he wakes up to discover Tom has vanished.

41/2 starsI have been visited by the ‘recommendation bunny’, and behold I was blessed. An author friend asked me if I had read Vanished by Carter Quinn yet? Then looked at me when I said 'what?' like I had three heads. So I sniffed, pulled out my IPad and dialed up Amazon; and bought the first book, because Vanished is in three parts.
This first book, is a prequel, about 70 some pages…It is the ground laying, of what this story will be. We see two very happily men going to celebrate their 21st relationship anniversary. Henry Cooley and Tom MacKinnon have a great life. They have each other, good jobs and an adopted son they adore. It is not Disneyland, things are all not cherry coated, but life is good.
Henry wakes on a Monday morning with a doozey of a hangover from last night’s cavalcade of wine. He finds Tom has already left for his morning run. By the time Henry gets himself together, he sees Tom has not gotten back yet and figures his run took him a bit longer than usual. Leaving for work himself for the day, certain after 21 years, there is nothing for him to be concerned about. He didn’t worry not reaching him by phone at work or text…People get busy…
How many times has this happened in our lives, of ignoring signs , talking ourselves not to panic; to even feel foolish? Carter Quinn, you packed so much into this story, but the best you gave the reader are the feelings you draw out of us. It is the thought that a loved one could in a moment of time be gone, poof into thin air. It is the feeling of helplessness. Henry is so off kilter, so lost as is the reader. Where is Tom MacKinnon?
I am glad I did not have to wait as all three stories are written. The cliff hanger endings would have killed me, so no beware here...all three stories are complete. Oh yes, I bought the other two a half hour into reading this…Thank you ‘recommendation bunny.’

Vanished (Audible Audio Edition) Carter Quinn Gordon Anthony Palagi Carter Quinn Books Books Reviews
Great story. What happened to Tom? Did Tom even exist? Is Henry suffering some sort of delusion? Or did he disappear and people are covering it up? So many theories and emotions as you go through this story. It is well written and a story you can read from start to finish in a short time. You will probably have to wipe your eyes at some point of the story. There are twists and turns right to the last sentence.
This is a great start to a new series. I have loved all of Carter Quinn's stories and this is no exception. I am always delighted and surprised by the depth of character and emotions he is able to draw out in his writing. All his books have a unique style and flow specific to the story. I received this today as I had preordered it and have already finished it. I hope part two won't be far off! If you haven't read his book "Out of the Blackness" do it now. Seriously. Right. Now. It is one of the best books I have ever read.
OMFSM, how did Carter Quinn manage to pack so much story into 80 pages? It gripped me from the start and didn't turn me loose. And I think it still has a hold of my heart. And the cliffhanger ending!!!! I think I need a hug.
I cannot imagine (and I don't even want to try) what it would be like to wake up one morning and have my husband be missing. And have nothing make sense. Poor Henry. Poor Tom.
I can't wait to read more. Please? Don't let that be the end of the story.
This book is an absolute gem. A brilliant idea executed in the most professional manner. It is exciting, heartbreaking and mind-boggling. Henry Cooley's inner struggles are wonderfully written. The first person point of view makes the story much more powerful. His pain is unthinkable. We get to know him, his past, his family, and his friends... everyone is suspicious... If the book didn't have its last sentence this would be a a heartbreaking tale of love and loss... but with the last sentence all bets are off! I can't wait to see what comes next! Highly recommended!
Forget all the Gay Mystery or Gay Romance books you are currently reading - unless you only want something sweet - and jump into the "Vanished" wagon. This book is a super angsty romantic thriller featuring an established couple in their forties. It is well written - if you don't mind some flashbacks - and from the first sentence to the last, the suspense is unbearable. I absolutely LOVED it! The end is a cliffhanger at best and, at worst, a bittersweet end, but the emotional journey is to die for.
Now what's this question mark after "THE END"??? There should be no question about it a sequel is needed!
